There he learned at the footlights of the masters: Dallas Burell, Del McCoury, John Hartford, Norman Blake, and many others, as well as family friends Whit Connah and Barbara Panter. Although he’s since moved north, the humid south remains, lodged in his heart and sinus cavities.

BRM Weekly: Neel Murgai – Harmonic Infinity Loops – Jalopy Theater and School of Music
February 27, 2020 – Brooklyn

BRM co-artistic director Neel Murgai presents a solo performance featuring overtone singing and looping compositions from his new album, Reorientation. With this solo performance, Neel introduces looping technology to create droning, psychedelic soundscapes of remarkable clarity and depth. Time in the music is measured by breaths, not bars, as Neel moves exceedingly slowly between overtone melodies, the sound of Aum, chords, textures and chants. Every performance is different, as Neel mixes this new sonic vocabulary in different ways, within the context of a compositional element or improvisational fancy.

Fate was on her sidefrom a shy, non-singing child to being a vocalist on Grammy winning albums, TUELO is carving out a permanent and memorable place in popular music worldwide. After an homage album to her homeland with her cousins in 2014, we are now seeing the emergence of a new, courageous and raw TUELO that will make waves in the music world from Cape Town to LA. Outside Voices:An Ember Ensemble Concert – St. John’s in the Village Church
February 29, 2020 – New York

How can we better listen to and hear voices that are different from our own? That is the focus of the Ember Ensemble concert titled Outside Voices that will take place on Saturday, February 29th in NYC and Sunday, March 1st, in South Orange, NJ. The second concert in Embers 25th anniversary season with the theme, Listening, it will explore through music the importance of listening thoughtfully and with compassion to voices that are frequently disenfranchised, such as those of other cultures, races and genders, the young, elderly and the ill. We began the Listening season in November with the Civil Discourse concert that examined the need for more thoughtful civility in our daily discourse, says Deborah Simpkin King, Ph.D., Embers Artistic Director, Conductor and Founder. In Outside Voices, we call on the listening skills we explored in the previous concert and apply them on a broader level to people we might tend to overlook. Devin Townsend: Empath Vol. 1 North American Tour – Warsaw
February 29, 2020 – Brooklyn

Devin Townsend Over the course of the last 25 years, accomplished heavy music artist Devin Townsend has remained consistent. Consistent-that is-in that hes rarely consistent in what weve come to expect from him. Constantly making unique inroads with many different styles of music, he has followed his particular muse in any way it leads him for almost three decades. Although heavy metal and progressive rock has always been his primary focus, each year that passes recently has resulted in new peripheral works that have seen him branch off to everything from country, new age, ambient noise or even orchestral musical theatre. As endearing as that has been to his constantly growing fanbase, it has also made it difficult to classify with much accuracy what he does and what he represents. Who is Devin Townsend? What is his musical identity? With his new album, EMPATH, we find that Devin Townsend is actually all of these things. Over the past few years, the success that Devin has slowly worked for has fortunately come with the power to control his own creative destiny. The recent successes with the DVD from a sold-out Royal Albert hall, or his 2012 Retinal Ci… (read more)
