Jennifer Hall – Rockwood Music Hall
08 mars 2020 – New York

As jazz critic Dan Bilawsky observed, Her voice is an open invitation, an instrument of confession and creation that immediately transports you to someplace else. Audrey wrote in the cover to her recent album:, Let Me Know Your Heart,Whether a standard or an original work, all of the songs have become a part of me and touch my heart. And I perform them hoping that they will in some way touch yours. And her greatest joy as a singer and … (read more)

« A Most Violent Year » – Tambaran 2 Gallery
Through March 12, 2020 – New York, New York

Alone, dead winter, and again, Im awake with the ravens. I havent really slept since the end of November. On a Fulbright grant in Kyiv, the city of my birth. From a country that no longer exists. In a new country I no longer know, I must spend the remainder of the cold months in Ukraine. The extended metaphor: journey is uphill and the perils too real. War, martial law, global market economies, all of our lives in the balance, and always, the missing. The missing and the art are the only constants. My studio looks like a room prepped for an execution. Plastic wall to ceiling, and Im painting about myself, about vulnerability, about love, about longing. Im painting about politics, about turmoil, about misunderstanding. Im painting about systemic violence, and the present so informed by nostalgia. The winter lasts right up until the summer. I have completed some projects and broken new ground. I have suffered but ate well. I, mostly intact, brought back this testament of my time and labor for your consideration.- Misha Tyutyunik

She believes there is a space to be found in music that gives us the freedom to be exactly who we are, with no pretending and no hiding. This leads her to make some unconventional choices in her compositions and playing based on where she feels the music wants to go. The lines between styles become blurred and rules get bent in order to communicate the raw emotion and human moments that tie us all together. Nilsson draws inspiration from every aspect of life and music that moves her, combining them through the lens of Jazz to create a deeply personal expression that she hopes is universally relatable. The Kentucky-born, New Orleans-schooled, New York-based pianist Jon Cowherd is best known for his long-running partnership with drummer/bandleader Brian Blade, with whom he co-founded the Brian Blade Fellowship, The Fellowships highly acclaimed albums showcase Cowherds… (read more)

Katy Berry (Baby Wants Candy, Nickelodeon, North Coast) hosts a hilariously eccentric evening of improvised songs in her monthly live cabaret, Electric Bitch. Watch as the veteran musical improviser inhabits the goofy, 1920’s Weimar-inspired character of the Electric Bitch to craft songs off-the-cuff based on chats with her audience. Accompanied by a live band (also improvising every note), the Electric Bitch isn’t just a skilled singer who can belt her face off and freestyle rap with shocking ease. Katy Berry is a seasoned improviser who keeps the laughs rolling with whip-fast quips. With a monthly run through 2020 at a former East Village speakeasy, every show also features a new burlesque act, as well as special guests from the NYC comedy scene who ‘interrupt’ with their own improvised characters. Perfectly weird and weirdly perfect, Electric Bitch is a Downtown cabaret experience you will never forget.

Family Day: Spring Into NowruzCelebrate the Persian New Year! [CANCELLED] – Asia Society
March 14, 2020 – New York

Asia Society and Pardis for Children have jointly decided to cancel our popular, annual Nowruz Family Day, scheduled for Saturday, March 14, due to concerns about the growing health risks of COVID-19. We have made this difficult decision after careful consideration and in consultation with community members, event participants, members of our Boards of Directors and, of course, concerned parents. Our decision reflects the feedback and concerns we have heard from our communities, and the fact that this situation is evolving too quickly for us to feel we can confidently guarantee a safe and healthy event for participants of all ages. This was a difficult decision which we hoped we would not have to make, but believe it is in the best interest of all involved. We wish everyone in the Persian community a safe and healthy new year, and we look forward to celebrating together again in the future. If you purchased a ticket, you will be refunded automatically by our box office.
